Students' Summer Work Opportunities 2020
The Students' Maintenance Grants’ Board (SMGB) within the Ministry for Education and Employment, in collaboration with the Institute for the Public Service within the People and Standards’ Division at the Office of the Prime Minister, are inviting full-time students having finished compulsory secondary education including those in their final year of their studies (Form V/Year 11) to apply for the provision of summer work opportunities for, students 2020.
Who may apply
Full-time students having finished compulsory secondary education including those at the final year of their studies (Form V/Year 11).
Online Application
Students interested to apply, should submit the online application at https: https://edurecruitment.gov.mt/ and attach the scans of both sides of their Identity Card.
Students who will finish compulsory secondary education during this current scholastic year are required to submit a declaration from the respective Head of School. Failure to submit the requested information properly, including the requested scans, may disqualify students from the scheme.
Applications will open on Friday 20th March 2020 at noon and will close on Friday 24th April 2020 at midnight.
Work Phases
Students should indicate their preference between the first and second phase (see table below). Students may apply for both work phases by submitting both applications. Students who may have their work-phase extended upon request from the employer and after approval of the SMGB need to have another Jobsplus Engagement and Termination Form filled in to cover the additional period of work-phase.

Remuneration and Entitlement
Remuneration for this work is pegged at an hourly rate of €6.69 in line with Salary Scale 16 of the Public Service. Students participating in this scheme are entitled for each phase as follows:

Jobsplus
Students are to ensure that once assigned with an employer, their employment is registered with Jobsplus via the Engagement Form as per Legal Notice 110/1993. The Jobsplus Termination Form must be submitted at the end of the summer work.
Failure to register a Commencement or a Termination of a job may result in incorrect data being shown on the Jobsplus Employment History.
Students’ Organisations
The Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Board welcomes applications from students who wish to work for recognised Students’ Organisations in Educational Institutions during Summer.
Students’ Organisations have to be registered with the Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Board as per Registration of Work Provision by Employers (MEDE Circular 2020). Projects need to be approved by the Students’ Maintenance Grants’ Board as stipulated in the MEDE Circular for Summer Work Opportunities.
Other Notes:
a. Please note that students receive the bonus and any other benefits such as vacation leave, sick-leave (against presentation of medical certificate) and income supplement on a pro rata basis.
b. Vacation leave which is not availed of till the end of each work phase is non-refundable.
c. Non-EU students must check with Jobsplus whether they require a valid permit enabling them to work in Malta.
d. This application form is specifically for the Summer Work Opportunities Campaign and will not be considered for any other scheme.
e. Students who have just finished compulsory secondary education must have obtained a declaration from the respective Head of School to prove they have finished Form V and have also registered with any Social Security Branch for NI purposes before commencement of placement.
